A Brief History About Uqbah'S Arabic Class For Sisters 2006-2007

The class started at the beginning of August 2006.we had two levels the beginners and the intermediate,a teacher and an assistant sometimes two, around 30 sisters attended the class as students .
The first level worked on the alphabet while the second level who already know how to read worked mainly on Conversational Arabic and learned more vocabulary.
We had some interesting activities which helped the students to practice more their Arabic Language. All the students had to go to one of the stores and to do their shopping in Arabic. We have the whole conversation posted in the blog below with its translation. They all enjoyed the experience and they had fun.
The other main activity was that we had a tea party where the students have learned how to welcome their guests in Arabic and to start a simple conversation with them. They also learned the ingredients of how to make a Traditional Moroccan tea recipe.
In the 2nd semester we have focused on learning how to read Quran with the appropriate Tajweed rules .
the main activity of this semester is that we have organized a competition for the students on April the 1st where we had 2 groups (the group:AlMujahedaad and the group:AlFa'izaat) competing against each other on the Tajweed rules and Quran recitation. It was an open invitation where sisters came to encourage there friends in the competition. The AlFaizat group won the first 2 rounds and the AlMujaheedat group took over and won the competition from the last round. In the recitation round the 2 groups were pretty equal. Both groups were well prepared and did well in the competition. We all enjoyed the competition and we are looking forward to organizing more activities for the class.

Tajweed Curriculum in Sisters Arabic School 2006-2007

Tajweed Curriculum in Sisters Arabic school 2006-2007

Tajweed 1: Introduction About Tajweed

Why should we read the Qur'an with Tajweed?

Here are some evidence of tajweed from Qur'an and sunnah:
  • ورتل القران ترتيلا
    (Al-Muzzamil 4)
and recite the Qur'an(aloud)in a slow pleasant टोनेand style.
  • والذين اتيناهم الكتاب يتلونه حق تلاوته اولائك يومنون به
    (al baqarah 121)
those to whom we gave the book recite it as it should be recited, they are the ones that beleive therein.

  • حق تلاوته
is reading it as it was revealed by Allah means reading it with tajweed as the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him read with what is now known as tajweed.
The messenger peace and blessings upon Him, ordered his companions to take [learn] the Qur'an from four of the sahabah and these were the best in recitation so that they could learn from them the correct techniques and how the revelation was pronounced .
Some books on the sciences of Qur'an state that if the recitation changes the make up of the word or the meaning then it is sinful recitation.
For those that cant fix a mistake but try to or cant find teacher Allah doesnt burden a soul with more that it can bear.

Tajweed 2: Thin And Thick Letters

Heaviness and Lightness التفخيم و الترقيق

The definition of tafkheem: Fattening

Its applied definition
: It is a heaviness that enters the body of the letter, so that the mouth is filled with its

reverberation (echo).
The linguistic definition of tarqeeq : Thinness

Its applied definition:
It is a thinness that enters the body of the letter, so the mouth is not filled with its

reverberation (echo).

The Arabic letters are divided into three groups as to tafkheem and tarqeeq:

1. Letters that always have tafkheem. خ - ص - ض - غ - ط - ق - ظ

2. Letters that have tafkheem sometimes and tarqeeq other times.

b) The( ( لin the Glorious name ofالله .

c) The (

3. Letters that always have tarqeeq. This group consists of the rest of the Arabic alphabet.

Tajweed 3: Qalqalah

The Qalqalah

The letters of qalqalah are in the group . If we attempt to say one of these five qalqalah letters with a sukoon( ق ط ب ج د ), we would find that the articulation point closes completely, and that it causes an annoyance in the articulation mechanism. This is due to imprisonment of the sound behind the articulation point. When these same five letters have vowels, we do not find this annoyance because voweled letters are pronounced parting of the two components of the articulating parts.
